Portland Board of Works

A Portland board has approved an agreement to maintain a sewage grinder pump at the Jay County Jail.
The Portland Board of Works voted Thursday morning to approve an inter-local agreement with the county. The Jay County Commissioners voted to approve the agreement on Jan. 24.
The pump is for the line coming out of the jail. The agreement states that the city and county would each pay half of the cost of replacing the pump.
Also Monday, board members voted to pay Greg Guerrettaz of Financial Solutions Group $1,000 to $2,000 per year for bond compliance work for the Hudson Family Park bond. Duties for this contract include collecting information, coordinating with city officials, preparing a continuing disclosure report and filing with the Electronic Municipal Market Access system.
This work is required by the Securities Exchange Commission and the Municipal Securities Rule Making Board.
The city bonded for $1,670,000 to construct phase IV of the park project. This phase included additional trails, amphitheater work, electrical work, playground equipment and a shelter.
In other business Thursday, board members:

•Approved a $59,294.88 pay request for Bruns Building and Development Corporation for work on the Steen Addition storm and sanitary sewer separation project.
The city will pay $23,125, which is 39 percent of the cost. The remaining 61 percent will be paid through a grant from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs.
•Voted to adjust the sewer portion of a Portland man’s water/sewer bill down to a three-month average prior to the leak.
The leak at the home of James Eal, 322 S. Meridian St., occurred between the meter and the house, so it complies with the city’s ordinance.
•Voted to void six outstanding checks and write off two bad debts.
Six checks written in 2008 totaling $161.84 were never cashed. One was a paycheck for a lifeguard for the Portland Pool, three were water meter deposit refunds, one was for a water bill that was overpaid and another was for a volunteer firefighter’s clothing allowance.
The total for the bad debts is $106.57. This is for two delinquent water and sewer accounts. The properties were sold before liens could be filed.[[In-content Ad]]
