Board OK's buys
Jay County Building Corporation
The Jay County Building Corporation approved three purchases, two of which will save substantial money compared to a contractor quote.
The board approved purchase of evidence lockers, software for booking and shingles to re-roof the existing jail building.
The evidence lockers were purchased direct from Tiffin Metal Products for $5,947.
The lockers and installation were originally quoted for around $20,000, said Jeff Badders of SchenkelShultz at last month's meeting.
Badders also informed the board that the roofing supplies purchased for $17,889.50 from Shelter Distribution saved about 7 percent than if they had waited. Shingle prices were expected to increase during the summer.
The county will also save on the labor by contracting someone later as opposed to the originally bid component in the expansion project.
"We can save about 40 percent over what we would have paid," he said about the roofing labor.
The board also approved purchase of a software system from Spillman Corrections for $24,958. The software will allow the sheriff's department to share information with other law enforcement agencies.
"That will allow them to scan their pictures in and store them in a database," Badders said.
The board paid claims totaling $789,060.71 for the month.
In a construction update, Badders said "progress has been very good," and that the expansion is still on schedule to be completed by fall. The entire project, he said, may be done by January or February.[[In-content Ad]]
