Board to map outline (08/22/2008)
Hirtoric Preservation Commission
A local board is on track to map out the boundaries of Portland's historic preservation district.
Members of the city's first Historic Preservation Commission plan to tour downtown buildings next month and work on mapping out the district.
The commission met Wednesday and discussed plans to meet Sept. 3 at 2 p.m. at the mayor's office to begin a tour of the down buildings.
Once the district is approved by the Portland City Council, the commission will determine guidelines for future changes to the facades of downtown buildings.
The purpose of the guidelines will be to protect the historic integrity of the structures.
Wednesday was the second meeting of the commission. During the July 23 meeting, Jane Spencer was elected president and Milo Miller Jr. was chosen as vice president.
Also, Kristi Corle was named secretary, and Barry Hudson was named treasurer.
Other members include Don Gillespie, Emily Roberts and Pat Szakaly.
Non-voting advisory members are Kristi Sturtz, Ami Huffman, and Wayne Goodman and Joseph Jarzen, both of the Historic Landmarks Foundation.
Also Wednesday, commission members reviewed the bylaws. The bylaws are expected to be approved at the next regular meeting, which is set for Sept. 17 at 5:30 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
