Board won't discuss invite

Jay County High School’s invitation to join the North Central Conference will not be on the agenda Monday for Jay School Board’s regular meeting.
JCHS principal Phil Ford said Tuesday that administrators are continuing to research possible conference affiliations and are not yet ready to make a recommendation on the NCC.
Jay County received an invitation to join the North Central Conference on Feb. 7. Also invited to the proposed 12-team group were Lafayette-area schools Jefferson, McCutcheon and Harrison, all of which accepted their invitations the following week.
The league, which is looking to expand for the 2014-15 school year, currently includes Richmond, Muncie Central, New Castle, Marion, Anderson, Huntington North, Logansport and Kokomo.
Administrators with Jay Schools have said their biggest concern about joining the NCC is travel. Jefferson, Harrison and McCutcheon are all more than 100 miles away from JCHS, and Logansport is nearly 90.
The Patriots’ longest current trip is to Twin Lakes (110 miles) for a wrestling invitational.
No other sport travels more than 75 miles for any regular-season event.
Jay County has been looking for a conference solution since 2001, when Hamilton Southeastern, Noblesville, Brownsburg, Harrison and McCutchen left the Olympic Athletic Conference to join the newly-formed Hoosier Crossroads Conference. That left the OAC at five teams, and Huntington North left the group three years later.
The Olympic Athletic Conference folded in 2010 after Anderson Highland merged with Anderson. Connersville is slated to joined the Eastern Indiana Conference in the fall, which JCHS and Muncie Southside are still seeking conference affilation.[[In-content Ad]]
