Bosma rallies GOP (10/27/2008)
By By RACHELLE HAUGHN-
Family is what shapes someone into a good leader.
The importance of family was emphasized Saturday night at a gathering of Jay County Republicans.
Brian Bosma, Indiana House Republican Leader, told those attending the Republican Fall Banquet that both he and Indiana State Rep. Bill Davis are where they are because of family.
"Bill Davis is a guy who is where he is because of his kids, his grandkids and his neighbors ... because of what is best for them," Bosma said to the large crowd at Bearcreek Farms.
Davis, who spoke briefly before Bosma, echoed the Republican leader's sentiment. "I couldn't do this without (my wife)," Davis said.
Bosma added that the lessons he has learned as a father have shaped how he serves his state.
He told a touching story about his daughter. He said that when she was a child, the family once saw someone being pushed across a street in a wheelchair. He said his daughter told him that if she had the choice, she would push the handicapped person.
The lesson that Bosma learned from the incident is that it's important to help whenever needed.
"If you see something going on that you can help - push," Bosma said. "But if we, each of us, don't have that attitude - we just aren't going to make it."
He said that one of the ways those who attended the event can push for something good is to fight for Davis to keep his seat.
"Be sure Bill Davis comes back," Bosma said, adding that Republicans also should vote for Mitch Daniels for state governor, John McCain for president and Sarah Palin for vice president.
He also urged audience members to remember their purpose in the Republican party.
"Who are you and why are you here?" he asked. "You've got to push."[[In-content Ad]]
