SAHS boys basketball

BERNE — Andrew Brown had plenty of tournament success as a player. Now he’ll have the chance to show what he can do as a head coach.
The South Adams School Board voted unanimously Monday to hire Brown as the coach of the Starfires’ boys basketball team.
“He’s a great young man,” South Adams High School athletics director Mike Pries said of Brown this morning. “He brings a lot of good experience in successful programs he’s played in and coached in. …
“His passion, enthusiasm and character are tremendous. We’re really excited to get him.”
He replaces Ryan Biegel, whose contract the board voted not to renew during its May meeting. The Starfires went 36-69 in five seasons under Biegel with a 5-15 mark last year.
For the past five seasons, Brown has been the varsity assistant at Columbus North. The Bull Dogs were 13-8 last season.

“I’m excited for the opportunity,” said Brown, who will be a first-time head coach. “My family and I are excited to be a part of the community and part of the tradition at South Adams.”
He has also coached at Madison-Grant and his alma mater, Blue River Valley.
Brown’s teams reached the semi-state level of the tournament in each of his four seasons in high school. The Vikings went to the Class A state title game during his senior season, 2001, and he won the Arthur L. Trester Mental Attitude Award.
South Adams’ last sectional championship came in 1993.
“I’m passionate about educating students and players,” said Brown. “We’re going to put together a team that’s going to do things the right way. We’re going to work hard on both sides of the court, and we’re going to, hopefully, bring back the tradition of Starfire basketball.”
South Adams will hold public meet-and-greet session to introduce Brown at the Stardome Friday at 6 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
