Brunswick wins 2 for Indians (03/30/2009)
FRHS girls track
VERSAILLES, Ohio - Holly Brunswick opened her season with a pair of victories Saturday.
Brunswick led the Fort Recovery High School girls track team to a fifth-place finish in the Orange Division at the Lady Tiger Classique hosted by Versailles.
The Indians scored 59 points, 10 behind fourth-place Ansonia and one ahead of sixth-place Franklin Monroe. Minster led the eight-team field with 183 points.
Marion Local won the White Division, and the host Tigers were first in the Black Division.
Brunswick had a mammoth day for the Indians, led by a dominating effort in the long jump. She won the event by more than a foot with a leap of 15 feet, 3 inches.
The sophomore also took first place in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.98 seconds. She was the high jump runner-up at 5 feet even, and placed fifth in the 100 dash in 13.96.
Senior Tina Roessner was the only other FRHS athlete to finish in the top four in any event, taking the runner-up slot in the 3,200 run at 12-minutes, 41.9 seconds. She also placed fourth in the 1,600 run in 5:58.9.
Other competitors for Fort Recovery were Lauren Day (seventh - shot put, eighth - discus), Mariah Koester (seventh - 300 hurdles), Abby Huelskamp (eighth - 800 run), Kelly Brown (eighth - 200 dash) and Olivia Schwieterman (eighth - pole vault).[[In-content Ad]]
