Bryant getting control
Bryant town council
BRYANT - The town toughened up its ordinance against dogs running loose in a recent meeting.
The town council passed an amendment to its 1976 dog ordinance last week in an attempt to keep dogs and other dangerous animals under control within the town limits after animals have been seen running around town.
"We've had some where we've had four or five dogs grouping together running loose," Peggy Smitley, Bryant Clerk-Treasurer, said this morning. "We're trying to keep that from happening."
Smitley said there hadn't been any severe incidents recently such as dog bites that pushed the ordinance forward, but in the past some animals had been jumping fences and scuffling with other dogs.
Dogs must be leashed when outdoors in Bryant unless they are confined within a fenced yard. Pets found running loose within the town may be seized by animal control.
Owners can be fined a minimum of $10 and a maximum of $500 per occurrence, and/or any fines pursuant to county or state codes.
Repeat offenders may also be prohibited from owning a pet for a period of two years and face daily fines if they refuse to get rid of the animal.[[In-content Ad]]
