Bryant OK's new structure law
BRYANT - A recently adopted new structure ordinance, with some stringent requirements for mobile homes, is now in effect here.
The town council passed the ordinance, which includes new and updated regulations on the building or installation of structures within the town's limits, on its second reading Monday on a 2-to-1 vote.
Council president Jason Meinerding and member Leo Kahn supported the ordinance while council member Warren Boice opposed it.
"We just wanted to make it more detailed," Meinerding said of the ordinance, which expanded on the town's regulations.
The ordinance includes some notable requirements for mobile homes within the town limits, stating that mobile homes entering the town limits must be no older than two years and that the owner must receive written approval from all adjoining property owners before the structure could be located in Bryant.
The ordinance also states that any structure used for human occupancy must contain at least 950 square feet of floor area and must be located on a lot of at least 5,000 square feet.
Meinerding said the rules for mobile homes weren't anything expressly targeted, but that the ordinance was just the result of the discussions regarding the issue in town.
New structures - including "houses, house additions, pole barns, garages, sheds, outhouses, barns, shops, box trailers, trailers, fences or any other structure attached to another structure" - must be permitted by the Clerk-Treasurer of Bryant through an application and $15 administrative fee.
New structures that are not permitted or otherwise found in violation of the ordinance can be fined $10 to $500 per day until the violation is resolved.
The ordinance will only apply to structures erected after Monday.
All existing structures are grandfathered in and do not fall under the scope of the ordinance.[[In-content Ad]]
