Bubp's service crucial to Jay Community Center
To the editor:
The Jay Community Center started as an organized program for boys formed by the men’s group at Asbury Methodist Church.
Over the years our organization has evolved to include a girls club in 1995, recreational leagues for Jay County youth, Boomer basketball leagues and tournaments, adult leagues, corporate challenges, slim down competitions, ladies night out, a fitness program including a fitness center and exercise classes, free senior activities, and so much more.
The Jay Community Center would not have been possible without the vision of our founding board members and the dedication of subsequent board members, notably Mr. Jeb Bubp. Jeb has served on the Jay Community Center Board of Directors for 30 years.
Jeb is not the kind of person to be up front in the limelight or take any credit.
His tireless efforts to be behind the scenes and strong support of the renovation of the old armory and the expansion of the Center in 2004 are true testimony of his lifelong dedication to the Jay Community Center, as well as Jay County.
On May 19, Jeb was honored at our 10th Annual J. Gordon Meeker Golf Tournament in front of his fellow board members, staff, family, and friends for his years of service. The tournament proceeds benefited the Jay County Boys and Girls Clubs.
These clubs have been of special interest to Jeb since his uncle Wendel Bubp was involved with the Boys Club many years ago.
Thank you to the Jay Community Center Board, staff, Portland Golf Club, all of the hole sponsors, and players for a beautiful round of golf and stirring tribute to Jeb.
A very special thank you to Jeb’s family — Capi (his Mom), Dr. Corby Bubp (son), Cameron and Julie (daughter) Hummel, granddaughter Kate, Mike and Lana (sister) Ninde, and friends, including Mike Medler and Mike Ashley, for joining us in honoring Jeb’s years of service.
We look forward to a continued relationship with Jeb as he begins to serve in his role in an honorary position on the Jay Community Center’s board of directors.
Sincerely,
Janet Bantz, Jay Community
