BZA approves garage (07/09/2008)
Portland Board of Zoning Appeals
By By RACHELLE HAUGHN-
A Portland man's property soon will become more modern.
Todd Thornburg, 140 N. Park St., asked a local board for a variance to allow him to build a new garage. His current garage was once used as a carriage house, he said.
Portland Board of Zoning Appeals members granted his request Tuesday evening. Thornburg asked for a variance in side yard property setback requirements, allowing him to build his new garage.
Thornburg said his current garage is only large enough for one car. He wants to build a 30-foot by 30-foot garage west of the existing garage. He plans to raze the old garage.
The new garage would be located five feet from the south side of the property line. The city's zoning ordinance requires structures to be at least 10 feet away from the property line.
BZA members Ron May, Vicki Tague, Larry Petro and Lee Newman voted in favor of the variance request. Board member Susan Schutz did not attend the meeting.
The Jay/Portland Building and Planning Department did not receive any verbal or written objections to Thornburg's request.[[In-content Ad]]
