BZA OK's request (07/12/06)

Portland Board of Zoning Appeals

By By RACHELLE HAUGHN-

One more nod and it’s a go.

A local man’s request for a special exception was approved Tuesday by members of the Portland Board of Zoning Appeals, with one stipulation. Now, there is virtually only one zoning hurdle left for the business to clear.

Jeff Stephen asked for a special exception to open a massage therapy business in an area zoned neighborhood business. Board members voted to grant the special exception as long as the Portland City Council votes to re-zone the lot to neighborhood business from industrial.

The council is expected to vote on the matter Monday at 7 p.m.

Before the board voted, member Vicki Tague asked Stephen about parking for customers.

Stephen said there is a 31x37-foot area behind the house that is suitable for parking.

No adjacent property owners attended the meeting.

After the four-minute meeting, Bill Milligan, Jay/Portland Building and Planning administrator said all adjacent property owners were notified of the special exception request and he received no objections.[[In-content Ad]]
