Candidate challenged (02/26/07)
A Redkey Town Council member is challenging a primary election candidate for a seat on the town council for the second time.
Dortha Quakenbush filed a challenge in the office of Jay County Clerk Jane Ann Runyon today, against James Clayton Phillips, who has filed for one of three seats up for election this year. Both Quakenbush and Phillips are Democrats.
Quakenbush, who is also currently a candidate for a seat on the council, also filed such a challenge in 2006 when Phillips was seeking a town council seat.
Phillips quickly dropped out of that town race and soon began an unsuccessful run for the Indiana State Senate seat re-captured by Republican Allen Paul of Richmond.
In the newest challenge, Quakenbush said Phillips "is not living at the given address, therefore is not a resident of the town of Redkey." It is the same claim that Quakenbush made in 2006.
For the primary, Phillips has listed his address as 120 1/2 W. High St., Redkey, a space above the former Yesteryears Inn. In June 2006, when Phillips changed his address for voting purposes, it was listed as 5385 South 1000 West.[[In-content Ad]]
