Cardinals' 14-point fourth too much for Fort Recovery (10/16/04)

NEW BREMEN, Ohio — Fort Recovery erased a 14-point deficit and was tied heading into the fourth quarter. But, the Tribe football team couldn’t manage its second win of the season as it gave up 14 fourth-quarter points in a 28-14 loss to the New Bremen Cardinals Friday.
Jeff Thobe put New Bremen ahead for good on a 6-yard run with 9:08 to play, and Troy Lammers added an 18-yard touchdown run with just 1:13 on the clock for the final margin.
Thobe and Lammers were two of the key players for the Cardinals all night as they used a dominant rushing attack. Although they went 0-for-3 passing, they racked up 358 yards on the ground and averaged more than six yards per carry as a team.
They used the rushing attack to pick up 23 of their 24 first downs in the game.
Thobe opened the scoring with a 3-yard run in the first quarter for a 6-0 New Bremen lead. Alex Leugers added a 12-yard touchdown run with just 1:56 left in the first half, and Chris Grant ran in the two-point conversion.
However, Fort Recovery made a game of it with a big strike from Mark Willmann to Tyler Wuebker. Willmann and Wuebker hooked up just 41 seconds after Leugers’ score, connecting on a 54-yard touchdown pass to cut the Indians’ deficit to 14-7 at halftime.
Greg Faller evened things up with a 39-yard touchdown run with 2:55 left in the third quarter, but New Bremen did all the scoring in the final period to come away with the win.
Faller racked up 112 yards on the ground on 15 carries. He also had three receptions for 45 yards.
Willmann was 6-of-13 passing for 118 yards.
