Cardinals run over the Tribe
NEW BREMEN, Ohio - The Cardinals didn't do much to slow down Greg Kahlig. The Tribe had even less success against Spencer Rohr.
The New Bremen running back racked up nearly 300 rushing yards Friday night in leading his team to a 34-18 victory over the Fort Recovery High School football team.
Rohr was a one-man wrecking crew for the Cardinals, scoring four of their five touchdowns and amassing more than 75 percent of their total offense.
The Indians never led, but trailed by just one after Kahlig, who completed 70 percent of his passes for 239 yards, hit Craig Tobe with a 23-yard touchdown strike just over two minutes into the third quarter. However, Rohr pushed the New Bremen lead back to seven with a 5-yard run four minutes later and then extended it to 27-12 on a 1-yard run 37 seconds into the fourth quarter.
Caleb Williams' 17-yard TD pass to Troy Williams with 4:28 left in the game made it 34-18 before Kahlig hit Cody Fiely with a 20-yard scoring pass for the final margin.
Rohr, who had TD runs of 4 and 6 yards in the first half to go along with his pair of second-half scores, totaled 289 rushing yards on 42 carries. He also caught one pass for 11 yards.
Caleb Williams finished 4-of-7 passing for 56 yards.
Kahlig finished 21-of-30 passing, hitting Aaron Vagedes with a 17-yard strike in the second quarter for the first of his three touchdowns of the night. Nathan Keller was the leading Tribe receiver with six catches for 61 yards. Tobe had four receptions for 70 yards, and Fiely and Michael Gaerke also had four catches apiece.
The Indians, who had won back-to-back Midwest Athletic Conference games, dropped to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the league.[[In-content Ad]]
