Cat club leader: Thanks
Editor's Mailbag
By To the editor:-
I would like to express my appreciation for the support of the Jay County 4-H Cat Club.
My name is Axton Betz and I am the leader for the cat club. Although this is my first year as leader, my involvement with the club began in 1992 as a first-year 4-H member. I completed 10 years with the cat club in 2001.
When offered the opportunity to lead my former club, I have to admit I was somewhat intimidated — not because I felt I couldn’t do the job, but because I felt I couldn’t do the job well.
I am a full-time graduate student living more than 100 miles away from Jay County.
After giving it thought, I put aside the majority of my self-doubt and dove in, feet first. While leading a 4-H club from more than 100 miles away has presented itself with some unique challenges and the transition of club leadership has not always been smooth, I have been overwhelmed with support from the 4-H community.
This past weekend the cat club held its annual cakewalk fundraiser. Several of the 4-H parents donated boxes of homemade baked good to be given away.
Because of the generous donations received, we had more baked goods than I have ever seen at a cat club cakewalk.
I also had lots of help to run the cakewalk from 4-Hers, parents and other volunteers. Due to the support received, we were able to set a cakewalk fundraising record this year.
Again, I would like to thank everyone for their support of this year’s cat club and for the support of my leadership role with the club.
Sincerely,
Axton Betz
