Caucus set for Nov. 30 (11/22/06)

Jay County Republican Precinct Committeemen will meet Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. to select a new county treasurer.
The event will be held in the meeting room at the Jay Community Center, 115 E. Water St., Portland. Applications currently are being accepted for the position.
Anyone wishing to be considered for the job must submit a declaration of candidacy by 7 p.m. Monday. Forms are available in the Jay County Clerk's office.
The position became available Nov. 7 when Jay County Treasurer Maria LeMaster resigned after a month on the job.
LeMaster took office on Oct. 7. She was elected to the post to succeed former treasurer Frances "Fran" Milthaler, who died Sept. 10 as the result of injuries suffered in a southern Indiana automobile accident.
LeMaster stated in her letter of resignation that she was giving up the position for personal reasons.
There are no degree qualifications for the job, but training will be offered for the person once he or she is in office. Applicants must be registered Jay County voters.
