Cavs stun Fort girls (12/17/05)
FRHS girls basketball
FORT RECOVERY — Snow pushed the game back a day. An avalanche of Coldwater Cavalier points shoved Fort Recovery to its first defeat.
The Indians’ offense disappeared in the fourth quarter as the visiting Coldwater girls basketball team went on a 16-0 run to grab a 48-37 victory.
The Cavaliers trailed 34-30 after a Holly Stein 3-pointer 1:27 into the final period, in the game which was supposed to be played Thursday but was postponed because of snow. It replaced the scheduled boys contest, which had previously been moved because of Coldwater’s run to the state championship in football.
But after coming back from a seven-point halftime deficit to take the lead, the Indians did not score again until there were just 15 seconds remaining. Five different Cavaliers scored as they went from a four-point deficit to an insurmountable 12 point lead.
Kendra Robbins had team highs of 15 points and nine rebounds as Coldwater won despite turning the ball over 28 times. Jessica Bettinger and Tasha Stucke each added 10 points, and Amber Heyne finished with nine rebounds and eight points.
Stein had 14 points to lead the Indians. She also had four rebounds and four steals.
Fort Recovery shot just 25 percent after the intermission compared to 55 percent for Coldwater.
Tiff Gaerke had seven points and nine rebounds, and Sara Fortkamp finished with five steals, four rebounds and three assists.[[In-content Ad]]
