Cecil withdraws, files for council seat (02/08/06)
A rural Portland woman who filed to run for a Jay County Commissioner’s seat, but was ruled ineligible, withdrew her name Tuesday afternoon from that spot and decided to run instead for a Jay County Council seat.
Vicki Cecil, a Republican, filed Tuesday to seek her party’s nomination for the council district 4 seat. A resident of 3692 East 400 South, Portland, Cecil at first filed to run for the commissioner middle district seat, but later learned she was not eligible because she did not live in the district that seat represents.
The council district 4 seat represents Jefferson, Pike, Wayne 4, Wayne 5, Wayne 6, Madison and Noble townships, and is currently held by George Meehan, who has not yet filed to run in the May primary election.
Former council member Andy Schemenaur Jr., earlier filed to run on the Democrat ticket for the district 4 spot.
Also filing Tuesday in clerk Jane Ann Runyon’s office was James L. Rinker, 10465 West 200 South, Dunkirk, a Democrat who filed to run for the Knox Township Advisory Board.[[In-content Ad]]
