Celebrate national tourism week
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
Tourism is a vital part of our community.
Travel and tourism is one of America’s largest industries. New visitors to our community bring in extra revenue and help our economy to grow and flourish.
Did you know that without the travel and tourism industry, each U.S. household would have to pay $472 more in taxes? Indiana welcomed 71 million visitors to our state, and one out of every nine jobs in the U.S. depends on travel and tourism? The Indiana Tourism industry enhances the quality of life and vitality of our communities.
National Travel and Tourism Week has been going on for the past 30 years. This year’s National Travel and Tourism Week’s theme is travel effect. This is based on research studies that have been conducted on travel’s position effect on relationships, health, education, meetings and more. We are trying to spotlight travel effect in our county.
National Travel and Tourism Week began Saturday and continues through Sunday. We at Jay County Visitor and Tourism Bureau are asking you to celebrate this week with us. You can do this by wearing red throughout the week. Red is the National Travel and Tourism Week’s official color. For at least two decades, wearing red during this has been a signature that signaled unity among travel and tourism workers and supporters.
On Thursday, you will be able to visit one of our “tourism hot spots” in the county for free. This is a great opportunity for you to explore Jay County and see all that it has to offer. Visitors may also sign up for a chance to win $50 while visiting any of the Jay County museums this week.
The hot spots include Museum of the Soldier, Jay County Historical Museum and The Glass Museum. World War II veterans will be on hand at Museum of the Soldier from 2 to 6 p.m. The glass Museum and Historical Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Stop by Community Resource Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for your state and local information.
