Celebration of Lights is Wednesday

Letters to the editor

On Wednesday, Nov. 10, the Jay County Hospital Auxiliary will be sponsoring the 17th annual Celebration of Lights ceremony in the Jay County Hospital cafeteria.
The auxiliary sponsors this event to raise money to support the Lifeline program, an emergency response system that provides help 24 hours a day. Lifeline is available to Jay County residents and surrounding county residents that do not have an emergency response center. The program allows the elderly and disabled to remain at home, knowing that emergency help is available at the push of a button.
Lighting a light is a way to honor a friend, to remember an anniversary or birthday, or as a memorial for a loved one. Lights may be purchased for a donation of $5 per name or couple, a strand of lights may be purchased for $100, or a whole lighted tree may be purchased for $300.
Donation forms for the Celebration of Lights are available at the Jay County Hospital information desk, local banks, and most businesses in Jay County.
Come join us in the cafeteria Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. for entertainment, refreshments and the lighting of the decorations and trees. Come enjoy friendship, fellowship and the opening of the festive holiday season.

To the editor:
The holiday season is quickly approaching. For some, this time of year will mean large family meals and gathering indoors when the cold winter arrives. For others, the holidays mean struggling to put a little extra food on an already thin table. With families across the community struggling to pay for heat and food, the greatest act of kindness Jay County could extend is donating any amount of canned goods.
Whether one chooses to donate food, clothing, money or time, the relief he or she brings will be immeasurable.
To members of our community who currently contribute to local food banks, we say thank you.
To those who are hesitant to give because of precarious family or business budgets, we strongly encourage you to give within your means.
We in the Jay County High School Student Council are planning a canned food drive the week of Nov. 8 and hope to collect 3,000 cans for donation to the Helping Hand Food Bank of Portland.
Please follow the example set by many of Jay County’s numerous organizations. Give and you will find that you will more strongly cherish the blessings you already have. Whatever your contribution, it will be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely, James Schubert, Karlos Harper and Tanner Martin, JCHS student council[[In-content Ad]]
