CFS official touts miracle in community (12/24/05)
Letter to the editor
To the editor:
I come to you today with a grateful heart knowing that I have been witness to a miracle. You may recall the picture that appeared in The Commercial Review on Nov. 18, showing the bare shelves in the Community and Family Services Inc. Helping Hand Food Pantry.
We were in dire need of donations due to the overwhelming demand of families in need of food. yet, with the disasters throughout the world we know that the demands for assistance were great.
However, the generosity of those in the Jayland area continues to overwhelm us and make us feel so grateful to be a part of this community.
We have witnessed an overwhelming resonse by many individuals, sororities, services organizations, churches and businesses in the Jayland area. Their response is nothing short of a miracle. We have received more than $4,500 in donations and thousands upon thousands of pounds of food. The shelves are now filled with food to share with those in need. As a result, the families we served in the last month have benefited from your generosity and many will continue to benefit in the new year.
Due to the tremendous response I am unable to list those who helped for fear I would leave somebody out. Yet, I want you to know how proud I am of each of you. I want to thank all of you for being a miracle for those we serve through our Helping Hands Food Pantry.
