CFS says thanks for grant (03/13/07)

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:

On behalf of the Community and Family Services Jay County Advisory Council, volunteers, staff and the more than 200 local households assisted monthly at the Helping Hand Food Pantry in Portland, we would like to extend our deepest appreciation for The Portland Foundation's recent $10,000 award for 2007.

This more than generous decision by your board members and staff will greatly fill a basic life need for Jay County residents.

Sincerely,

Jim Bruner, president, CFS advisory council; Don Cole, community services specialist; and Larry Braden, executive director, CFS

Good show

To the editor:

It has been over a week since the jazz program at Arts Place and I'm still thinking how great it was, so I decided to share my feelings with others. It was such a wonderful and enjoyable program from start to finish. There were familiar songs and new numbers that kept our feet moving and made us feel that we were young again.

The artists were warm, friendly, entertaining and professional. This made a wonderful evening and the audience was very enthusiastic. If you were not there, you missed a relaxing, fun-filled evening.

We are indeed fortunate to have a facility like Arts Place and every entertainer mentions this sometime during their program.

I urge you to partake of the programs. If you have tickets and cannot attend, please share them with someone else. If you know of friends who have never attended, invite them for a wonderful new experience. They will thank you for it.

Great care

To the editor:

My mother was recently a patient at Jay County Hospital for 11 days. During that time she received excellent care. The nurses and therapists were very professional but also so caring. They were always checking on her and doing anything possible to make her comfortable. Her room had some heating problems and the maintenance people were right on top of it, no matter what time of day or night.

The administrative staff was also very courteous and very helpful. When mother passed away they did everything possible to address the concerns of the family at that time.

Dr. Jerry Whetzel and Dr. Frank Vormohr were very professional addressing mother's needs as well as the family's questions.

When Dr. Whetzel was snowbound and not able to get to the hospital, he made arrangements for the emergency room doctor to address her needs until he was able to arrive at the hospital.

As a resident of Jay County we sometimes hear negative comments about Jay County Hospital. During my mother's stay she had nothing but courteous and professional care from everyone associated with Jay County Hospital.

Thank you, Jay County Hospital, for being such a caring facility in our time of need.

Sincerely,

Leora Engle
