CFS thanks helpers

Editor's Mailbag

By To the editor:-

My favorite Christmas movie is “It’s a Wonderful Life.” This movie has two powerful messages that I don’t think should be overlooked. First, we find that one person does make a difference in others lives, and secondly, that a community cares for others.

Last year our food pantry was in need and you (the community) came to the rescue. Not only during the crisis, but all year long. We assisted an average of 156 families each month. This would not have been possible without your help. I want to take this time to thank all of you who contributed to the cause throughout the year.

First, I want to recognize those that contributed consistently throughout the year: The Church of the Bretheren, Bryant Wesleyan Church, Zion Lutheran Church, Redeemer Lutheran Church, First Presbyterian Church, Peyton’s, and Taylor Building and Concrete.

Other donors included:

•Churches — Bluff Point Friends Church, Fairview United Methodist Church, First Church of the Nazarene (third and fourth graders), Bellefontaine United Methodist Church, West Walnut Church of Christ, Trinity United Methodist Church, Union Chapel Church, Salamonia United Church of Christ, and Asbury United Methodist Church.

•Industries and businesses — FCC, Alphabet, Tyson’s, Bing Lear Manufacturing LLC, Wal-Mart, First National Bank, Jay-Randolph Developmental Services, Jay County REMC, Sprint Foundation, Community Relations Team and United Telephone Co., Jay County Visitor and Tourism Bureau Inc., Papa John’s Pizza and Curves for Women.

•Schools — Jay County High School, East Elementary School, General Shanks and Judge Haynes.

•Organizations — Kitchen Kookies home extension club, Portland Kiwanis Club, Psi Iota Xi Sorority, Republican Ladies, Ivy Tech Sociology class, Optimist Club, Elks #768, and Portland Lions Club.

If by chance I have forgotten your group, I apologize in advance and I thank you for assisting us.

Many individuals also donated money or food items. However, they are too numerous to mention. Thank you all for your support this past year. We are always looking for new volunteers. Remember, one person does make a difference and your help is always appreciated.

Happy holidays.
