Chamber says thanks for show helpers (09/06/07)
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
On behalf of the Portland Area Chamber of Commerce, I would like to congratulate the Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Association for the success of its 42nd annual antique engine and tractor show.
It is always one of the high points of the year when we have visitors from around the world traveling to Portland for the show.
It is the chamber of commerce's goal to make our guest feel welcomed into the community. I hear repeatedly how much tractor show visitors enjoy coming to Portland.
They appreciate the friendliness of those who live and work here, and frequently comment on the progress that is taking place in the community. Thank you Portland for your hospitality throughout the year as we have thousands of people coming into the community for the tractor show and other events that take place here.
I would especially like to thank the "Welcome Home to Portland" festival committee for planning a wonderful event for our visitors and the community.
I want to recognize the following for assisting the chamber with our free trolley and van service that takes people from the fairgrounds to shops and restaurants throughout the city: Bob Franks (trolley chairperson), Charlie Tague, Pat Jellison, Affolder Implement Sales, Arts Place, Baird-Freeman Funeral Home, Crowne Pointe, Ken Kunkle Chevrolet-Olds-Cadillac, Pak-A-Sak, Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home, all of the trolley drivers and hosts, van drivers, and those who worked in the hospitality tent.
You all are outstanding ambassadors for our community.

Thanks
