Citizen went the extra mile
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
There are truly some beautiful and extraordinary citizens in this town of Portland.
My motorcycle stopped running on Seventh Street the evening of Thursday, May 29.
A stranger and his wife stopped and offered assistance.
I thanked them but refused their offer as there was nothing they could do.
Was I ever wrong!
The fellow insisted, with me on it for balance and steering, to push me all the way to East Race Street, my residence.
He would not be denied.
So with my 184 pounds on a motorcycle that weighed 570 pounds, he took station behind the cycle and physically pushed me home, a distance of about a mile, with his wife following in their pickup.
He refused any financial compensation for his challenging feat that went way above and beyond my expectations.
So, Mr. and Mrs. Dustine Hilfiker of Portland, your kindness was covered in velvet and greatly appreciated.
You deserve any additional recognition this letter may generate.
Respectfully,
Roy Leverich
