Clerk to purchase computers
Jay County Commissioners
The Jay County Clerk’s office will be getting a new set of computers.
Jay County Commissioners approved purchase of 15 new computers and equipment this morning for the clerk’s office and election room at a cost of $23,577.
Jay County Clerk Ellen Coats said these computers will replace the computers for office staff, two counter computers, two public access terminals as well as a computer for the election room.
The commissioners reviewed quotes from CSI, Indianapolis, Cleaver Cabling and Consulting, Martinsville, and Progressive Office Products, Portland for the equipment.
Coats said she preferred the Dell equipment quoted by Cleaver, which is owned by Randy Cleaver who also serves as the county’s information technology specialist. Since Cleaver will be maintaining the computers, Coats said it would be reasonable to purchase equipment he is familiar with.
The commissioners agreed and made Coats purchasing agent to buy the equipment from Cleaver at a cost of $23,577. The purchase will be paid for out of the clerk’s budget.
In other business this morning, the commissioners:
•Reappointed Carl Walker to the Jay County Board of Zoning Appeals.
•Reappointed Scott Hilfiker and Shane Houck to the Jay County Planning Commission.
•Were informed by Jay County Auditor Nancy Culy that the county Internet service has been upgraded to its 10-megabit-per-second connection. However, she said the courthouse is currently without service because an IP address update is needed. Culy said Cleaver would be coming to address the issues.
Culy also informed the commissioners that the first year of that three-year contract with CenturyLink would only cost $74.95 per month. The other two years of the contract will be charged at $99 per month.
•Were informed by county engineer Dan Watson that the solar heating system at the highway garage is not functioning properly. Watson believes that the wrong equipment was installed at the garage. He is currently working with installer Sertech Heating and Cooling to address the issue.
•Reviewed a monthly report from the Jay County Jail.
The commissioners noted that the average meal cost in November was 55 cents per meal, which Sheriff Ray Newton said was the lowest cost-per-meal ever.
•Made Newton purchasing agent to buy a snow blower with three-year warranty from Hull Brothers, Fort Recovery, at a cost of $999.
The commissioners also reviewed quotes from True Value, Portland, and Small Engine Warehouse, Dunkirk.[[In-content Ad]]
