Clubs hope to warm up kids
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
The Portland Lions Club and the Portland Kiwanis Club are proud to come together for a conjunctive effort to help our local communities. The Hot Cakes for Cold Kids event will collect jackets, scarves, gloves and hats to give to the less fortunate (in grades K-12) for an opportunity to stay warm during the cold Jay County winter.
The Lions and Kiwanis members will be rolling up their sleeves in an act of goodwill and camaraderie to put on an all you can eat pancake and sausage breakfast on October 8 from 7 a.m. to noon at the Lions Civic Center in Portland.
Those that bring in a new or gently-used coat to donate to our cause will be given a free entry to the breakfast. Don’t have a jacket to give? That is all right. You can still get in to the breakfast at the usual price of $6.
One hundred percent of all money collected will be given back in the form of additional coats. Lions and Kiwanis are going to cover all the costs of the supplies. If you have a coat around your house that isn’t used anymore, your kids have outgrown their jacket, or you teach a class or organization that can make hats, gloves or scarves, please consider donating. Let’s come together and help the less fortunate.
Sincerely,
Josh Gibson president, Portland Lions Club, for the Lions and Portland Kiwanis clubs[[In-content Ad]]
