Collett man checks on road status
Jay County Commissioners
A rural Portland man approached the commissioners Monday about vacating a portion of a road and alley adjoining his property.
Richard Phillips, 1152 West Collet Drive, Portland, asked the commissioners about abandoning the platted road, which is located in the unincorporated town of Collett located near county roads 450 South and 100 West.
The commissioners recommended that Phillips speak with an attorney to fill out proper paperwork to petition for the vacation of the road. If approved, that action means the property would revert to private ownership.
In other business Monday, the commissioners:
•Approved a contract for $11,300 to paint the third floor of the courthouse, excluding murals in and around the dome above the rotunda.
The commissioners also discussed with courthouse superintendent Roger McBride future plans to paint and perform maintenance around the dome.
•Signed a contract with R.W. Armstrong for annual bridge inspections. The total cost for two phases of bridge inspections is $212,785. Bridge inspections are funded 80 percent by the federal government, making the county's share of the bill $42,557.[[In-content Ad]]
