Kegan Comer was a leader of one of the most successful boys basketball teams in Jay County High School history. It didn’t take him long to make his impact felt at the collegiate level.
Comer, a 2013 JCHS graduate, was the No. 2 scorer for the University of St. Francis men’s basketball team Tuesday in its 68-63 season-opening victory over Indiana Tech.
The freshman came off the bench to hit a pair of 3-pointers and make seven of his eight free-throw attempts. He finished with 15 points.
Comer also had two steals, one rebound and one assist.

Erin Hunt
Jay County – 2011
Scored a career-high 11 points Tuesday in the season opener for the Bethel College women’s basketball team in its 73-65 win over Concordia.
Hunt shot 4-of-8 from the field and hit one 3-pointer as she reached double figures for the first time in her collegiate career. She also had four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Hannah Moore
South Adams – 2012
Led a group of four former Starfires at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge on Saturday in Grand Rapids, Mich., as she ran for the Huntington University women’s cross country team.
Moore finished with a time of 19 minutes, 55.83 seconds, in the 5K race. She was seventh on the Foresters squad.
Alli Beitler
South Adams - 2010
Finished 11 seconds behind her former teammate at the Great Lakes Challenge as she ran for the Goshen College women’s cross country team.
Beitler paced the Maple Leafs as she placed 130th. She posted a time of 2:06.37.

Tim Lehman
South Adams – 2012
Competed for the Goshen College men’s team at the Great Lakes Challenge.
Lehman finished off the Maple Leafs’ team score as their No. 5 runner. He crossed the finish line in the 8K race in 27 minutes, 41.67 seconds.

Sam Heckard
South Adams – 2012
Ran at the Great Lakes Challenge for the Bethel College men’s cross country team Saturday.
Heckard completed the 8K race in 32 minutes, 13.99 seconds. He was 357th overall.

Erika Waugh
South Adams – 2011
Won one individual event Saturday and contributed to a relay victory in the Calvin College women’s swim team’s 190-108 victory over Albion.
Waugh came through with a win for the Knights in the 200-yard backstroke, taking the top spot by nearly two seconds in 2 minutes, 14.33 seconds. She teamed with Michaela Rookus, Kristen Kinzer and Lexi Scott for a winning time of 1:55.4 in the 200 medley relay, and also placed third in the 200 freestyle.
On Friday she finished fourth in the 100 backstroke and eighth in the 200 individual medley in a three-team meet with Grand Valley State and Hillsdale.

Kylie Kahlig
FRHS – 2012
Started for the University of Northwestern Ohio women’s basketball team Wednesday as it dropped its season opener 71-48 to Spring Arbor.
Kahlig scored six points for the Racers. She also had three rebounds and one assist.

Marshall Hull
FRHS – 2013
Competed for the University of Findlay men’s swim team Oct. 19 in its 133-98 loss to Tiffin.
Hull picked up a third-place finish with a time of 2 minutes, 22.11 seconds in the 200-yard individual medley. He joined Matthew Sheehan, Aaron Mitchell and Andrew Rickabaugh in finishing third in the 400 medley relay and also placed fifth in the 100 butterfly.
The freshman was third in the 100 backstroke and fourth in the 200 backstroke Oct. 12 against Lake Erie. On Oct. 18, he turned in a fourth-place finish in the 200 backstroke and a sixth-place finish in the 200 individual medley against Ashland.

Dustin Wanner
South Adams – 2012
Helped the Taylor University football team jump back above .500 Saturday with a 21-7 victory over Siena Heights.
Wanner forced a fumble in the first quarter as the Trojans turned in a shutout first half. He also had a pair of tackles.

Kelsey Fiely
FRHS – 2013
Played for the University of Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday in its 25-23, 25-11, 25-15 loss to NAIA No. 21 Cornerstone.
Fiely had two digs for the Racers, who dropped to 20-6 on the year. She also had one assist.

Dylan Cope
Jay County – 2013
Competed for the Indiana University East men’s cross country team Tuesday at the Kentucky Indiana Athletic Conference Preview meet host by Midway.
Cope placed 45th for the Red Wolves, who were fourth in the five-team field. He finished the 8K race in a time of 33 minutes, 53.56 seconds.[[In-content Ad]]
