Comments on Memorial Day (05/30/08)
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
I would like to comment on the recent coverage of the Memorial Day ceremony held at the cemetery on Monday, May 26. I was pleased to see that the newspaper covered such an important event and enjoyed the pictures in the paper. However, I was disappointed that there was no mention of the Jay County High School band members participating in the ceremony. Usually the coverage and support of the band by the newspaper is exceptional.
I was also surprised by some of the citizens attending the ceremony and their remarks about where the band were standing and the loud conversation of some of the audience during the most reverent part of the ceremony. I would expect the public to be appreciative and respectful of the people who participate in the program on a volunteer basis - especially our young people.
My congratulations to the American Legion Honor Guard, ladies of the auxiliary, Rev. Darrell Borders, Kelly Smeltzer and the dozen members of the Jay County band who presented a brief but very meaningful remembrance on Memorial Day.
Sincerely,
Julie K. Hunt
Portland
Thanks
To the editor:
I would like to thank everyone who came to my benefit, those who made donations, and those who didn't. Special thanks to Moose Lodge 417, Judge Haynes Elementary staff, Terri Franklin and Louise Harter.
