Commission backs decision by BOW (11/27/07)
Portland Redevelopment Commission
By By RACHELLE HAUGHN-
A decision by the Portland Board of Works was seconded by the Portland Redevelopment Commission.
Members of the commission voted Monday to approve a $13,227.53 change order for the Industrial Park Drive street-widening project.
Linda Kennedy, the city's clerk-treasurer, told commission members that although the cost increase was approved by the BOW in September, she felt it should also go before the commission.
The cost of the project increased because 511 feet of curbing along the entrances to businesses was inadvertently omitted from the project by Schneider Corp.
Kennedy said she felt the cost increase should also be approved by the commission because the curbing was not included in the contract awarded to Lica Construction.
When the BOW approved the cost increase, the price was $16,924. However, the commission approved the smaller figure.
In other financial matters, Kennedy told the commission that a total of $43,376.15 in interest has been paid on the bonds for the Industrial Park Drive project.
Two separate bonds are being used to pay for the project. One is for $1,290,000, and the other is $620,000. Kennedy said the next interest payment is due Feb. 1.
Also Monday, commission members were updated on the progress of the street-widening project.
Bruce Hosier, Portland's mayor, said the streetlights are being installed along Industrial Park Drive. The work is expected to be completed in the next 10 to 14 days.[[In-content Ad]]
