Jay County Commissioners
By By MARY ANN LEWIS-
As Jay County Commissioners prepare for the end of 2006 and the beginning of 2007, they opened annual bids for highway department and bridge supplies Monday afternoon.
Bids for crushed stone, concrete bridge materials and equipment rental were received by Milo Miller Jr., Gary Theurer, and Faron Parr.
Bids were opened from Meshberger Brothers, Portland; StoneCo. of Bryant; IMI of Montpelier; Baker and Shultz, Decatur; and LPI of Portland.
All bids were tabled until review by Ken Wellman, superintendent of the Jay County Highway Department; Dan Watson, Jay County Engineer, and commissioners' attorney, Brad Burkett.
Also tabled was a decision on purchasing two new vehicles for the Jay County Sheriff's department.
Sheriff Todd Penrod submitted quotes from Fuqua of Dunkirk, Les Wenning of Fort Recovery, and Ken Kunkle of Portland for the purchase of one or two vehicles with various prices listed with and without trade and two-toned or single colored vehicles.
Penrod recommended commissioners wait until after Jan. 1 to let new sheriff Ray Newton, have a voice in the decision.
Additionally, commissioners heard Jay Emergency Medical Service director Teresa Foster-Geesaman say that local resident Zachary Gaskill, who is currently working with JEMS, would like to take paramedic training.
Commissioners agreed to pay for Gaskill's training at a cost of $2,094 and he will be required to remain with JEMS for three years following completion of the training.
Commissioners also made Geesaman purchasing agent for a new washing machine for the JEMS base.
In another financial matter, commissioners made Superior Court Judge Joel Roberts purchasing agent for a new printer for the judge's office.
Roberts told commissioners the current printer is about 10 years old, and although it is still in operation, he felt a new one was in order. He indicated he has the $703 available in his capital account for the purchase.[[In-content Ad]]
