Commitment to party questions
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
Primary elections are always important, however, this upcoming one, in May, needs the office of Jay County Prosecutor to be looked at closely by all.
Our present prosecutor, Mr. Wesley Schemenaur, is running for re-election, on the Democratic ticket, and is opposed by another Democratic party member.
This letter is not an attempt to discredit Mr. Schemenaur. Its purpose is to enlighten the voting public concerning events during his present tour as prosecutor.
He was elected in November of 2010. He announced his intent to appoint Republican George Lopez as his Chief Deputy in December of 2010. (Note: Mr. Lopez left the law firm of Hinkle and Racster to accept the position). One must assume there were no Democrats to choose for that position. Mr. Schemenaur also announced he would be joining the local law firm of Hinkle and Racster (to be known as Hinkle, Racster and Schemenaur). One can draw their own conclusions as to what may or may not have taken place in the foregoing scenario. I believe if Jay County voters had wanted a Republican they would have chosen one.
It is also alleged, that during Mr. Brian Hutchison’s last election campaign, Mr. Schemenaur chose to publicly display a 4x8 sign, on his property, supporting Mr. Hutchison’s efforts at re-election. It must be noted that there was a democratic candidate in opposition also. Should not Mr. Schemenaur, who was elected on the Democratic ticket, have supported another democrat for office?
Mr. Schemenaur is a Democratic candidate for re-election in the upcoming primary.
Should the Democrats in this county support a candidate who appears to be a Republican embedded in the Democratic party?
Answer that question at the polls when you vote.
