Community revival set for Oct. 22-25 (10/17/06)

Letter to the Editor

To the editor:

Remember with concerns the symptoms predating the collapse of the mighty Roman Empire. In his classic study of that mighty military machine, Edward Gibbons cites five primary causes for the dissolution of that great society:

1. The rapid increase in divorce and the undermining of the sanctity of the home.

2. The spiraling rise of taxes and extravagant spending.

3. The mounting craze for pleasure and the brutalization of sports.

4. The building of gigantic armaments and the failure to realize that the real enemy lives within the gates of the empire, in the moral decay of its people.

5. The decay of religion and the fading of faith into a mere form, leaving the people without a guide.

Are these five fingers of death gripping the throat of America today? As much as we would like to think that our problems of crime, violence, sexually transmitted diseases, AIDS and unwanted children can be solved by gun control, sex education and passing out condoms to young men and slaughtering our children through abortion on the altars of convenience, greed and selfishness, we will continue on this downward spiral to death and God's judgment.

In response to this, the Jay County Ministerial Association believes that the root of society's problems are spiritual.

Therefore, we are inviting the community to revival services Oct. 22-25. The services will be Sunday, Oct. 22 at 10 a.m., and each evening through Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 6:30 p.m.

Life Action Ministries will be leading the revival services with preaching and worship. There will also be children's ministries for those 4-years-old up to teenagers. The event is going to be held in the auditorium at Jay County High School.

For further information, call Pastor Terry Bye at (260) 726-6247 or Pastor Hugh Kelly at (260) 726-8895.
