Contract awarded for bridge (10/21/2008)
Jay County Commissioners
The Jay County Commissioners awarded a bridge project Monday afternoon to a Fort Wayne firm.
Primco Inc. won the rights to work on Bridge 225, located on Boundary Pike between Antioch and Boundary City, with a bid of $245,203.45. The bids were reviewed for two weeks by county engineer Dan Watson and Ron May from AECON before the recommendation was made.
Primco beat out six other firms and bid the project about $64,000 under the estimated cost.
The commissioners also set a date to take bids for a widening project on Bridge 277. Bids will be opened for that project on Nov. 17.
In other business Monday, the commissioners:
•Spoke with Sheriff Ray Newton and Jay County EMA director Ralph Frazee about options to increase courthouse security.
•Spoke with IT manager Randy Cleaver about e-mail retention. Cleaver told the commissioners the county's firewall provider, Barracuda, also has a system for retaining any incoming our outgoing e-mails and will be sending along more information and a quote.
•Opened two bids for a dump truck from Selking International, $84,259.28, and Kinstle Sterling/Western Star, $78,310 or $71,841 for a slightly smaller version. The bids were tabled pending review by highway superintendent Ken Wellman.
•Signed a right of way easement for Verizon for a drop at county road South 600 West.[[In-content Ad]]
