Contract for McBride OKd (7/2/04)
Local physician given new deal
The Jay County Hospital Board approved two contracts, which will allow one local doctor to continue practicing medicine in the community and will bring another back to the area to practice, at its special meeting Thursday afternoon
The first contract was with Dr. Marvin McBride Jr., whose agreement with Cardinal Health Systems of Muncie was severed on June 30.
The hospital’s new 18-month contract with McBride will allow him to stay in his current building, which is located at 430 W. Votaw St., and keep his patients. He also will be allowed to accept new patients.
The intent is for McBride to start his own family practice after the contract with the hospital ends, said JCH chief executive officer Joe Johnston. Once it ends, nothing will change, except McBride will no longer be an employee of the hospital.
While employed by the hospital, McBride will be given a salary and his practice will have financial backing from JCH.
“We wanted to help him stabilize his practice and keep his patients with him,” said Johnston.
If McBride chooses to renew his contract with JCH after the 18 month, he can do so for up to three months, said hospital attorney John Coldren.
McBride’s office is currently closed so CHS can clear out its equipment, said McBride. The office will re-open Monday at 8 a.m.
“I’m excited I’m able to stay in the community,” McBride, who did not attend the meeting, said in a telephone interview Thursday evening. “It’s an answered prayer that everything fell together so quickly.”
McBride said he was unable to comment on his former contract with CHS due to contractual obligations.
Also Thursday, the board voted to approve a two-year recruitment assistance agreement between Dr. Joni Miller, JCH and Vormohr Medical Center.
Miller was born in Jay County and is a Jay County High School graduate. She completed a four-year residency in Orlando, Fla. earlier this year. Miller’s family resides in Jay County, Vohmohr Medical Center office manager Nancy Marchand said.
Under the agreement, Miller will be a Vormohr employee and be paid by the medical center. Miller will be able to keep her billing numbers, which she uses to bill her patients. The hospital will assist with the start-up expenses and will help pay her salary, if necessary.
The hospital’s intent is for Miller to remain an employee of the center once the two-year agreement ends, said Coldren.
Johnston said Miller will be able to practice both pediatric and internal medicine at the 1758 West 100 South medical center.[[In-content Ad]]
