Contract for West Jay gym awarded (04/05/07)
Jay School Board
Jay School Board members chose the low bids for the gym roof and floor replacement projects at West Jay Middle School during a special meeting Wednesday.
Board members awarded a contract to McGuff Roofing of Muncie for $97,700 and Cincinnati Flooring of Indianapolis for $113,670.
Jay Schools coordinator of facilities Ron Krieg told the board members Bryan Alexander, Jay Halstead, Mike Shannon and Greg Wellman that the roofing project can begin anytime after a contract is signed with the company. The completed roof will be white, which Krieg said should help keep the gym cooler during warmer months. The gym is not air conditioned.
The flooring will be ordered and stored in the gym to adjust to the temperatures of its new surroundings before it is installed, Krieg said. He added the new floor will be installed over the current floor. Adjustments to the gym doors will also be made by the flooring company. This type of flooring is expected to last for 30 years, Krieg said.
Both projects are expected to be completed by the beginning of the 2007-08 school year, Krieg said.
The corporation received five bids for roof repair and two bids for floor replacement.
Also Monday, Jay School Corporation superintendent Tim Long told board members that an executive session planned for after the special meeting was canceled. Board members were scheduled to meet with parents of a student.[[In-content Ad]]
