Contract signed with jail contractor
Jay County Building Corporation
The contract between the county and jail expansion contractor Weigand Construction is complete.
"The contract has been reviewed by your attorney and signed by the contractor," said Jeff Badders of SchenkelShultz of the $7.32 million construction contract.
The Jay County Building Corporation approved the contract and signed it without discussion. Weigand has been performing work at the site on intent-to-contract based agreement.
Badders said the building corporation can likely expect to see bills from the contractor at next month's meeting.
In a construction update, Badders said crews are finishing pouring footers and will continue laying blocks and installing early electrical and plumbing infrastructure for the jail.
Crews also uncovered the remains of a basement of a tavern that was located on the grounds around the turn of the 20th century. Badders said the crews founds a poured floor and the remains of plaster walls and were able to remove and backfill the area.[[In-content Ad]]
