Cope sets school record

Collegiate Check-up

Two former Patriots competed Saturday in Crawfordsville. One of them set a school record.
Dylan Cope opened his collegiate career with a record run for Indiana University East as he and fellow 2013 Jay County High School graduate Tyler Back (Grace College) took part in the Wabash College Relays.
Cope opened his career in style, shattering the Red Wolves’ record in the 1,500-meter run by 15 seconds. His time of 4 minutes, 19 seconds, was good for fifth place.
Back was fifth in both the shot put and hammer throw with distance of 41 feet, 2 ¼ inches, and 123 feet, 2 inches, respectively. He also scored points for the Lancers in the discus with a toss of 87 feet, 4 inches, for 10th place.
The freshman added a 12th-place finish with a throw of 94 feet, 5 inches, in the javelin.
Grace placed fifth in the five-team field while IU-East finished last.

Greg Kahlig
Fort Recovery – 2010
Was selected to play in the Reese’s NCAA Division II College All-Star Game.
Kahlig, a University of Findlay senior, was selected to play in the game at 7 p.m. Friday at Ford Center in Evansville.
He was also named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-Region first team and the Daktronics All-America second team.
He finished his career fourth on the Oilers’ all-time scoring list. His 736-point season was the third-highest in school history.

Eme Miller
JCHS – 2012
Helped the Defiance College women’s track team on its way to victory Saturday at the Rose-Hulman Early Bird.
Miller’s top finish came in the 1,500 run as she posted a time of 5 minutes, 2.83 seconds, for fourth place. She was also seventh in the 800 run in 2:30.6.

Hannah Moore
SAHS – 2012
Competed Saturday for the Huntington University women’s track team at the Emory University Invitational in Atlanta.
Moore placed 14th out of 52 athletes in the 5,000-meter run. She posted a time of 19 minutes, 19.69 seconds, for the Foresters.

Katie Snyder
JCHS – 2013
Ran for the Indiana Wesleyan University women’s track team as it opened its outdoor season Saturday at the Wake Forest Open in North Carolina.
Snyder and Wildcat teammates Corrine Melvin, Emily Bantz and Michaela Mertz teamed for an 11th-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay in 50 seconds flat. She also had times of 13.46 and 27.86 in the 100 and 200 dash preliminary races respectively.
