Coroner database coming soon (11/21/06)

Jay County Commissioners

By By MARY ANN LEWIS-

Jay County, along with the other 91 counties in the state, will soon be provided with a database system, provided by the Indiana State Coroners Association, Inc.

Jay County Coroner Mark Barnett told Jay County Commissioners Monday afternoon that the coroner's association recently received a federal grant which will be used to provide the database and it will be available at no cost to the county.

The database will allow each county coroner to access a standard form to be used for state records, Barnett explained. Each county will be provided a laptop and software to access the uniform paperwork.

"It basically means we'll all be on the same sheet of music," he said.

Commissioners president Milo Miller Jr. and Barnett were required to sign a memorandum of understanding for the system.

The system is web based so that any coroner or deputy coroner may access it from anywhere they have Internet access, Barnett explained to Miller, Gary Theurer, and Faron Parr.

The program was designed by an Indiana coroner and contains every form that could be needed.

The only potential cost will be for Internet access, Barnett said.

Additionally Monday afternoon commissioners approved a request from highway superintendent, Ken Wellman, to purchase a V-plow for the front of one of the county's trucks at a cost of $7,100.

They also approved his request for the purchase of a mower to be used to mow the county's roadsides. A quote for the purchase has not yet been obtained.[[In-content Ad]]
