Council OK's funding for court records (09/05/07)
Portland City Council
By By RACHELLE HAUGHN-
Record-keeping for Portland City Court is one step closer to an upgrade.
A local board voted to allow funds to be allocated to purchase new computer software for the court.
Money in the clerk's record perpetuation fund will be used to buy $6,500 in software. The new software will be used to keep track of money received and dispersed through the court. It would replace the current ledger books, which are more than 2 feet long.
Money in the fund is generated by fees charged for faxing documents, document storage fees and administrative costs for collecting probation fees.
Members of the Portland City Council voted Tuesday during their eight-minute meeting, to allow the funds to be appropriated.
As explained Tuesday, the appropriation will require a second reading and vote to be adopted.
In other business Tuesday, council members gave Bruce Hosier, mayor of Portland, their well-wishes on his upcoming trip to Japan.
Hosier leaves Friday for his trip in which he will join Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels and about 70 other state, business and community leaders. He will return Sept. 13.
"I have the privilege to represent East Central Indiana," Hosier said. While there, he plans to meet with FCC (Indiana) Inc. officials. The Japan-based company operates plants in Portland and Berne.
Hosier will serve as a representative of Energize-East Central Indiana (ECI). The trip is being held in conjunction with the 2007 Midwest U.S.-Japan Association Conference, which will take place in Tokyo.
Also Tuesday, council members:
•Heard Hosier give an update on several ongoing projects in the city.
He said the Industrial Park Drive street-widening project is still on track to be completed by the end of this month. Use of the new lift station likely will begin about the middle of this month, he said.
Hosier also said that bid-letting for the Boundary Pike/Wayne Street project likely will start in October. The project will include extensive sewer, storm drain and streetscape work.[[In-content Ad]]
