County crews did job well

Editor's Mailbag

By To the editor:-

This is in reference to this evening’s (Monday, Feb. 2) edition of The Commercial Review concerning the school superintendent’s (Barbara Downing) criticism of how our highway department handled the clearing of our county roads.

It always seems to me that those that have never walked in another’s shoes are the first to complain. It is my understanding that the salt can not melt the ice until the weather reaches a certain degree of warmth and/or the sun comes out.

These men work long hours, endure rude motorists and then have to listen to complaints such as Ms. Downing’s. They are mere men, not miracle workers. Ice does not melt very fast in 10 degree or less weather.

I have two children in the Jay School system. If sending them to school a few days into the summer break ensures their safety, I’d trade for it any day.

I personally feel that the highway department does a good job. I would like to see others go out and do their job, if they think they can do any better.

Good work, guys.
