County insurance chosen (12/02/2008)
Jay County Commissioners
Jay County Commissioners made a decision to stick with their current insurance broker but are changing benefit providers.
The county will continue with Apex Benefits Group, which is currently handling the county's health insurance, but will switch to Anthem insurance. Anthem quoted a rate of 6.93 percent for Jay employees.
The county will drop its current coverage from Principal.
Due to rising healthcare costs, employees will be seeing increased deductions coming out of their paycheck to keep pace with the expenses. Jay County Auditor Nancy Culy said the per-pay deductions will rise to about $20, up from about $8.
The commissioners decided to stick with a $1,500 deductible, but noted co-pays for doctor's visits and prescriptions will drop $5. The county will be making the switch for the beginning of the year.
Old National had also provided quotes from Anthem, but the commissioners decided to continue to work with John Gause from Apex.
In other business Monday afternoon, the commissioners:
•Signed a contract to retain the services of Greg Guerrettaz of Financial Solutions Group, who has worked with the county on financial planning on the jail expansion. The contract for Guerrettaz's services is an amount not to exceed $30,000.
The commissioners are also anticipated finishing a contract with Sue Beesley of Bingham McHale LLP in the near future, for her continuing expertise on handling on the bonding process.[[In-content Ad]]
