County may buy surplus
Jay County Commissioners
The county will look into buying a highly discounted metal detector from the state surplus.
Jay County Emergency Management Agency director Ralph Frazee informed the Jay County Commissioners Monday that there are 78 new walk-through metal detectors available in surplus.
"It would be a whole lot cheaper," Frazee said, as opposed to buying from a company. "They're still in the box ... brand new."
The commissioners have looked into getting a metal detector either at one of the courthouse entrances or before entering the circuit courtroom, but the price has been a factor.
"It would sure make a lot of sense," said commissioner Milo Miller Jr. on the idea to purchase from the surplus.
Frazee said that law enforcement has to put in the request to buy from the state surplus and that he would speak with Sheriff Ray Newton about the matter.
In other business Monday, the commissioners:
•Appointed Sue Waples, manager of the Portland Holiday Inn to the board of the Jay County Visitor and Tourism Bureau.[[In-content Ad]]
