County OKs drain plans

Jay County Commissioners

Jay County Commissioners approved drainage plans for an expansion for a north Portland business.
Jay County surveyor Brad Daniels presented plans for Fullenkamp Machine, 1507 N. Meridian St., Portland, which is planning to expand with a new 150-foot by 56-foot building.
“There’s really not much room for detention,” Daniels said, noting that water pools in a small field area between the business and Wayne Street. “There really is no place for the water to go there.”
Daniels said, however, that the company will be removing one structure and tearing up some concrete on the south side of the building that will aid drainage a bit. Water on the property will move east toward Wayne Street and drain into the side ditch at the road.
“You don’t see any potential problems?” asked commissioner Faron Parr.Daniels said the field area should be sufficient to hold water while it drains into the side ditch and that he didn’t think there would be an issue.
The commissioners unanimously approved the plans.
In other business this morning, the commissioners:
•Were informed by Daniels that work to clear brush along the Halfway Ditch in Redkey has helped improve the banks and that additional work will be done to clean out the interior of the ditch.
•Approved a drainage assessment combination for John Bailey, 4275 S. Boundary Pike, Portland.
•Received a report from the National Association of Counties about prescription drug card use. In April, 1,203 people in Jay County utilized the drug discount card, saving $14,261.
•Signed an emergency claim for $400 for the Jay County Clerk to attend a state-called meeting June 7, 8 and 9.[[In-content Ad]]
