County pays jail electric bill
Jay County Commissioners
Although the county moved into the Jay County Jail expansion in September, it’s just now taking over the electric bill.
Sheriff Ray Newton informed the Jay County Commissioners Monday that jail project contractor Weigand Construction has been paying the electric bill for the expansion building at the jail since the county moved in in September. Weigand has now transferred the electric account over the county.
Newton said he was unaware that Weigand was paying for the electric but that the contractor has asked to be reimbursed for the $10,108.99 paid since that time.
The commissioners agreed to pay the total. The money will be paid out of the sheriff’s utilities budget for this year.
In other business, the sheriff also received approval to purchase a third 911 computer terminal for the office.
The total cost of the equipment is $3,332 and will be purchased from Progressive Office Products.
Newton also presented the commissioners with a copy of the 2010 activity report at the jai.[[In-content Ad]]
