County picks Kunkle for police cruisers
Jay County Commissioners
Jay County Commissioners decided Monday to buy two new police cruisers locally, even though it will cost a bit more.
The commissioners chose to buy two new vehicles for the sheriff's department from Ken Kunkle Chevrolet, Portland, at a cost of $38,980 after trade-in.
That price is higher than bids received from Fincannon Ford, Hartford City, of $38,311.84 and from Sam Roberts Ford, Bloomington, $37,550.50.
Commissioner Jim Zimmerman said the lower cost wasn't enough to justify going out-of-county to purchase the vehicles.
In other business Monday, the commissioners:
•Reappointed Lynn Hampson to the Jay County Library Board.
•Set a price of $10 per precinct for digital copies of the registered voter list. The price to obtain the paper copy was $10 and the commissioners decided to keep the price for the digital version the same.
•Changed the date on which county claims will be paid.
A change is state law now only requires government units to advertise judicial claims instead of all claims. The commissioners now approve utility claims on the last Monday of the month and all other claims on the first Monday.
Jay County Auditor Nancy Culy suggested that all claims can now be paid on the last Monday since they do not have to be advertised. The commissioners approved changing the payment schedule per Culy's suggestion.[[In-content Ad]]
