County to look at tech contract (11/27/06)
Jay County Commissioners
By By MARY ANN LEWIS-
Technical support for the county's computer system could be only a click away.
Jay County Commissioners this morning agreed to consider signing a contract with PhoeNX Technologies, Muncie, to provide technical support for the county's computer system.
Ryan Stanley, account executive with PhoeNX, explained to commissioners Milo Miller, Gary Theurer, and Faron Parr, what the county may need to upgrade the system, as well as how the system could be "brought under one domain, to make sure everyone is on the same page."
Stanley had looked at the county's system a couple of weeks ago and met with them today to report those findings.
There are 80 desktop units used by county government - including the sheriff's department, Jay Emergency Medical Service, highway department, and courthouse, and "we need everything under one controlling system," Stanley said, emphasizing that security is a priority.
As for assistance when a problem arises, Stanley said the county's computer system could be accessed from the company's Muncie office and repairs could be made from there.
Stanley said the contract would be for $75 per hour for the assistance, and he explained if the repairs could be made through network streaming, that charge would be lowered to $65.
Commissioners agreed to have Stanley present figures for the tech support system.
Also today commissioners agreed to support LifeStream Services of Yorktown's application for an operating assistance grant through the Indiana Department of Transportation.
Mark Yaudas, transportation manager for LifeStream told commissioners the New InterUrban rural public transit system has provided 7,234 transportation trips for residents of Jay County through the third quarter of the year, with most of those trips provided for school children.
LifeStream currently has 29 vans running for the five counties of Delaware, Jay, Randolph, Blackford, and Madison, and Yaudas said pans call for placing three more in operation in 2007.
Additionally today, commissioners learned that the Indiana community of Brazil has purchased an old oil tank currently used by the Jay County Highway Department for $20,000. A new 6,000-gallon tank is expected to be delivered to the department this week.
The cost of the new tank is $36,500.[[In-content Ad]]
