County workman's comp prices down (01/16/07)
Jay County Commissioners
By By MARY ANN LEWIS-
It's going to cost the county a little less to cover employees in the event of on-the-job injuries in 2007.
Bob Brown of Barnum-Brown Insurance, Dunkirk, told Jay County Commissioners Monday afternoon that workman's compensation coverage costs have gone down slightly to $124,000 from $130,000 in 2006.
"It's not a lot," Brown told Milo Miller Jr., Gary Theurer, and Faron Parr, "but it's a little bit."
"The bottom line is we saved a little money," Miller noted of the $6,000 savings.
Brown also asked commissioners to consider safety education for county workers.
"The question is how do you get safety foremost in employee's minds?" he said. "How can you get people to address this? The safety thing has changed. We're proactive now rather than reactive."
Also Monday commissioners learned from director, Teresa Foster-Geesaman, that $9,095 has been written off by Jay Emergency Medical Service as uncollectible fees.
Miller said that collections in 2006 were about 80 percent of charges, better than the 60 percent collection rate several years ago.[[In-content Ad]]
